President Akuffo Addo and Five others Honoured at Valley View University’s Special Congregation

 

Valley View University (VVU), Ghana’s Premier Chartered Private University, on Friday, 6th July 2023, honoured six distinguished African personalities for their sterling contributions to society’s progress and development. The eminent personalities received doctorate degrees for contributing to societal progress and development.

They are H. E. President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia, Doctor of Humane, Honoris Causa; H.E. former President John Agyekum Kufuor of Ghana, Doctor of Humane Letters, Honoris Causa; former First Lady of Ghana, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, Doctor of Humane Letters, Honoris Causa; Hon. Chief of Staff of Ghana, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare was awarded Doctor of Science, Honoris Causa.

 

H. E. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, one of the accomplished personalities, received a citation for his contribution to education and socio-economic development in Ghana and the sub-region. The other personality, one of the University’s benefactors, Mr. Thomas Svanikier, was recognized with a citation for his benevolence to the University in diverse ways.

                                          

The awardees were recognised for their exemplary leadership and for playing several roles in their respective endeavours to enhance the cause of humanity.

 

Except for President Akuffo Addo, and Mr. Svanikier who received a citation, the rest were robed academically to signify their new statuses.

 

In response to the recognition by the University, the Zambian President, Hakainde Hichilema, said he was grateful to the University for recognising the contributions he was making to improve the living conditions of his people. He urged African Universities to serve as instruments and agents of development and continue to contribute to tackling society’s ills. 

 

On his part, H.E. President Akuffo Addo appreciated the gesture and indicated how humbled he was to receive the University’s citation. He stated that Valley View’s recognition of his achievements would motivate him to serve his people and formulate policies that would improve the lives of Ghanaians.

 

Expressing his joy and excitement on behalf of the awardees for recognising their achievements, H.E. former President J. A. Kufuor thanked VVU for contributing to Ghana’s higher education and supporting human capital development. He appealed to the University to maintain its ideals and values of excellence, integrity, and service.

 

 

Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, Ghana’s first female Chief of Staff, was elated that VVU had recognised her humble impact in public service. She encouraged the University to continue to complement the Government’s efforts in providing higher education for the youth of Ghana.
