Missionary Elder Pablo Rivas and Family Bid Farewell to VVU

A farewell program was organized by the Valley View University (VVU) Administration on May 31, 2023, for the missionaries from Southern America who visited VVU and spent eight (8) weeks studying English Language. This was to acquire the rudiments of the language to enable them work effectively in Liberia. The team of missionaries comprised Elder Elias Pablo Quinde Rivas, his wife, Castro Gonzalez Rocio Johanna, and their daughter Anna Paula Castro Rivas.

Prof. Ninon Amertil, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University who presided over the function, praised the missionaries’ resolve to move to Africa to support God’s cause. In her farewell message, Prof. Amertil remarked, “the time we have today will not come again, and we should have an attitude of gratitude.” She encouraged Elder Rivas and his family to be steadfast in their quest to work for the Lord, and they would succeed. Prof. Amertil also urged them to quickly adapt to the culture and the new environment they may find themselves in so they could soon fulfil their mission.

Responding to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor’s brief remarks, Elder Rivas, speaking on behalf of his family, appreciated VVU for hosting and giving them the warmest reception during their short stay. He thanked the University Administration for their support.

Dr Susana Adjei, Head of the Department of General Education, which hosted and provided tuition to the missionaries, encouraged them to speak English in their interactions at home to get acquainted with the use of the language. She added that learning a language was a process, so they needed to practice speaking it regularly.

Also present at the program were the Dean of Student Life and Services, Dr Mrs Martha Duah;

Matron of the University Food Services, Mrs Naomi Lydia Faakye; and the Ag. Director of University Relations, Mrs Harriet A. N. Asare.

The brief but significant program ended with a consecration prayer by the Special Advisor to the Vice-Chancellor, Pastor Joseph Aaron Hagan.
