The Award is in recognition of outstanding commitment to quality and excellence in the realm of Customer Satisfaction, Leadership, Strategic Planning and benchmarking.

Vice Chancellor Wins Gold Academic Award

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Dr. Daniel Buor, has been awarded Gold by the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences for extraordinary publications in Public Health and Medical geography. The Award is one of the most prestigious to be awarded a scholar in the country. The Award ceremony took place at the Coconut Grove Regency Hotel in Accra, the national capital, on 26th November 2011 at 8.00pm.

Professor Buor holds a PhD in Medical Geography from the University of Ghana (2001) and a second PhD in Health Care Studies from Maastricht University in The Netherlands. Besides, he holds two postgraduate certificates: Postgraduate Certificate in health services: research and practice from The Netherlands Institute for Health Sciences, AND Postgraduate Certificate in The Strategy of Data Analysis in Epidemiologic and Public Health Research from The Netherlands School of Primary Care Research (2002). He has achieved 31 peer-reviewed, conference and technical publications and 212 non-refereed publications.

His paper, "Gender and utilisation of health services in Ashanti region, Ghana, Health Policy: 2004 Sept; 69 (3)375-88" adjudged by BioMedLib/Medline in April 2011 among the Top 10 to be published in that domain FOR ALL TIME. He reviews for several international journals including social science and Medicine, world development, International Journal of equity in health, Aids and behaviour and Journal of Tropical Medicine and International Health and is a member of several professional bodies including Population Association of America, Association of American Geographers, Ghana Geographical Association and Southern Demographic Association.

He has rendered service of international character. He was the respondent to a project on "World Map of Medicines Compedia" undertaken by the Universities of Lisbon (Portugal) and Granada (Spain): 2008; an evaluator of an application for an International Foundation for Science (IFS) Research Grant, March 2008 and was a team member that reviewed the Accreditation of Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences, Orlando, Florida, USA from November 9-12, 2010.

He is ordained Elder of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and married to Mary with five children, Seth, Joseph, Daniel, Comfort and Emmanuel.
