Profile of Prof Daniel Kwame Bediako
Prof Daniel Kwame Bediako is the Vice Chancellor of Valley View University and an Associate Professor of Old Testament Language and Exegesis. He was appointed Vice Chancellor of the University in November 2015.
He was born on the 10th of September 1976 to the late Benjamin Nsiah and Madam Grace Nsiah at Brodi in the Brong Ahafo region. He had his basic education at Brodi in the Brong Ahafo region and proceeded to the Presbyterian Secondary School at Sampa also in the Brong Ahafo region, where he earned a Senior Secondary School Certificate in 1995. Prof Bediako continued his education at the Valley View University to study Religion and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Religion with first class honours in 2002. He served as a Teaching Assistant in the Theology Department after his first degree.
Prof Bediako was subsequently given scholarship by the University to study at the Adventist International Institute of Advanced Studies (AIIAS), Philippines, where he obtained Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy in Religion in 2004 and 2009 respectively. During his studies at AIIAS, he taught several graduate and undergraduate courses in Biblical Hebrew and Old Testament literature from 2008 to 2009.
Upon his return to Valley View University in 2009, he taught full time at the School of Theology and Missions. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2012 and to Associate Professor in 2014. He has served on the editorial boards of five scholarly journals as well as a reviewer for six journals. Since May 2013 to date, he has taught at the Adventist University of Africa in Kenya where he has also supervised a number of Masters and Doctoral theses and dissertations.
Prof Bediako has been the editor of the Valley View University Journal of Theology from 2011 to 2015, and the Integrator from 2012 to 2015. He has to his credit four books and over thirty peer-reviewed publications, with a number of international conference papers. He authored the commentary on the Book of Joshua in the Andrews Bible Commentary. He was recently appointed Associate Editor of the Andrews Bible Commentary. He is a member of the Adventist Theological Society and the Ghana Association of Biblical Exegesis.
Prof Bediako has served on several academic committees of the General Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He has been a member of the Biblical Research Institute Committee which advises the world church in matters of doctrine and theology since 2010 to date. He served on the Theology of Ordination Study Committee from 2013 to 2014. He has also been the Secretary of the Biblical Research Committee of the West-Central Africa Division from 2012 to date.
Prof Bediako has chaired numerous committees of the Valley View University, including the Board of Graduate Studies, Inter-Faculty Council, Junior and Senior Staff Appointments and Promotions Committee, Editorial Boards of the Integrator and Valley View University Journal of Theology, Auction Committee, University Library Board, and Chaplaincy Board.
Prof Daniel Kwame Bediako has held several positions at Valley View University, including Coordinator of the Centre for Missions, Gender and Youth from 2010 to 2011, Dean of the School of Graduate Studies from 2012 to 2015, the Acting Pro Vice Chancellor from August 2014 to October 2015, and the Acting Vice Chancellor in 2015, until his appointment as the Vice Chancellor of the University. His area of specialization and research is Old Testament exegesis, with special interest in the Hebrew language.
He has earned awards such as, the Best Religion/Theology Student for three consecutive times (2000, 2001, and 2002), Grand Prize for the First International Ministerial Writing Contest in 2008, Outstanding Faculty Member of the academic year 2009/2010, and Prof Dr Daniel Buor Research Excellence Award in 2010 and 2011.
His hobbies include thinking, writing, music composition, singing, and listing to the sounds of birds. He is the Music Director for the Valley View University Church and has composed a couple of songs. Prof. Bediako is a Seventh-day Adventist Pastor and married to Gifty. Both are blessed with two children, Hehra and Daniel.
