Overview of the Certificate Program in Medical Equipment Technology
Medical Equipment Technology primarily involves the installation, operation, maintenance and management of biomedical equipment and instrumentation systems. The certificate programme in medical equipment technology at Valley View University prepares students to install, test, operate, calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and manage diverse biomedical instrumentation systems and electronics technology such as physiological monitoring systems, anaesthesia delivery systems, electrosurgical units, electrocardiographs, cardiac monitors, autoclaves, radiographic equipment, and ventilators employed in the healthcare industry.
The curriculum consists of six modules that cover Medical Equipment Management, Medical Education (Anatomy, Physiology and Medical Terminology), Electronics (DC and AC Electricity, Solid State Devices, Digital Electronics, Electronic Troubleshooting), Medical Instrumentation (Medical Equipment Function, Operation and Troubleshooting), and Information Technology (Computer Hardware, Software, Networking, Database Management).
The duration of the programme is three eight-week sessions (that is three years, eight week session per year). Each session covers two modules.
Upon successful completion of all six modules, students will be eligible and expected to write a certification examination by the Technical Examinations Unit of Ghana Education Service for the award of Medical Equipment Technician II Certificate.
Admission is opened to:
- SSSCE / WASSCE with passes in Core Mathematics, English Language, Integrated Science, and passes in any two of Physics / Applied Electricity, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. Non-science students with good grades (A-B or A1-B2) in Core Mathematics and Integrated Science will be considered on individual basis.
- Holders of Electrical, Electronic and Mechanical engineering technician certificates.
- Mature  applicants (30yrs and above) working in healthcare institutions maintenance departments.

Valley View University is pleased to invite you to submit your application form for the 2010 session of the Medical Equipment Technology programme, which runs from June 1 through July 30. Prospective students are advised to arrive two days earlier to arrange for housing, pay for meals, settle down and prepare for the commencement of the programme. Students will be accepted on first come – first served basis. It is, therefore, recommended that you send in your application form as soon as possible. Please, find attached to this email a softcopy of the 2010 MET application form. (Prospective new students are to note that the cost of the application form is 45 dollars and is payable upon arrival at Valley View University. Old Students will not pay for the application form). Below are some relevant information concerning the 2010 MET session.
- Tuition fee is 345 dollars, Boarding is 138 dollars, Lodging is 56 Dollars, and General Charges is 169 dollars.
- For prospective new students, Medical Equipment Technology primarily involves the installation, operation, maintenance and management of medical equipment and instrumentation systems. The primary role of a medical equipment technician is to install, test, operate, calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot, repair and manage diverse medical instrumentation systems and electronics technology employed in the healthcare industry. Graduates of the programme may be employed in hospitals, medical clinics, medical laboratories, medical equipment independent service providers and governmental regulatory agencies. The Curriculum consists of six modules that cover Medical Education, Medical Equipment Management, Medical Equipment Troubleshooting (Medical Instrumentation), Electronics and Information Technology. Students who successfully complete all six modules are eligible to write a certification examination by the Technical Examinations Unit of Ghana Education Service for the award of Medical Equipment Technician II certificate. The 2010 MET session will be your first of three eight-week (two months) sessions. Each session covers two modules.
- Students who will complete all six modules of the MET programme in this session will be eligible and expected to write the MET certification examination by the Technical Examinations Unit of Ghana Education Service. The certification examination consists of four papers (components) and a student must pass all four papers before a certificate can be awarded to him or her. The Cost of the examination is 100 dollars. Further details regarding the examination will be communicated to you upon your arrival.
- Successful applicants will be given acceptance letters within thirty (30) days after receipt of their completed application form. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised on the outcome of their applications.
